Definition of a catfight;

Catfight is a term for a fight between two women typically involving slapping, 
scratching, dress ripping and hair pulling as opposed to punching or kicking. 
A traditional catfight involves a locked up rolling,  wrestle style of action.
One of the premier catfight scenes in Cinema History, occured in the Movie Destry Rides again.
It has all of the traditional elements.  Dress ripping, tangled rolling 
ground wrestling, slapping, clawing, biting and the all important hair pulling.

Catfighting has recently been on the rise in several fields of entertainment. 
Catfights have been featured in cartoons, movies, and several television commercials, 
often ending with the catfighters missing some of their 
clothing. In the 1970 and 80s, interest in catfighting led to the popularity of the women 
in prison films. The current interest in World Wrestling Entertainment 
women's wrestling, is in part due to the interest in catfight entertainment.
It can be noted that the principle catfight action of WWE and other
professional wrestling entertainment venues involves a traditional
wrestle style of the catfighting scene, with leg locked
rolling, hair and clothes grabbing action.  Generally when things get real nasty
and start to include eye gouging and chocking nearby gentlemen and ladies will seperate the
combatants.  It should be noted that while popular, few recent, 
if any movies, have featured a good ol fashion girly girl catfight.  
The last ones being Muriel's Wedding and Lair of the White Worm.  While both were very short, 
all had the basic elements of short skirted attire, leg locking, wrestling, hair pulling, etc. 
There has, however, been a more recent and disturbing trend towards 
a more violent catfight action.

As for a current more traditional action in cinema, the recent movies 
Banditas and She's the Man were close, but they were no "Destry Rides again"
I often imagine a remake of that movie with meg Tilly and Madona going at it 
in show girl costumes, in some nasty ol salon :)
The fight scene for instance in Bringing Down the House was rediculous and brutal.
But these are the kind of crapy catfight scenes we seem to be currently stuck with.
Either it's some big fat broad beating the hell out of a little one.  Some nut
knifing another bitch, kung fu madness, or some secret catfight behind a door. 
More blood and gore, less sexy fun, and when they do have a sexy catfight situation
develope, it is done 90% off camera!  You see more catfighting action in some
commercials and cartoons now than you see in regular TV and movies.  It is like some
weird taboo or something?  You can show a woman blowing up another woman, or a 
woman being brutally raped in main stream TV and movies, but NO, do not venture
to show a sexy [but not pornographic] traditional catfight !  weird ?!

Another term that has given rise, is the bitchfight or girlfight.  Neither one
of these truely falls under the definition of your classic catfight.  They are more
often ugly beat downs between even uglier girls.  There has been a disturbing trend
towards these school yard and gang club beat downs, often occuring in poorer deprayed
neighbourhoods between gangs of girls.
